The following is a message received about a World Record Cycling Attempt at Coalburn on 27th/28th August. If anyone is interested I suggest that they contact the organiser direct. Dennis
"Hi,
I am currently organising an event to raise the profile of cycling a healthy and sustainable form of transport, and am wondering if any of your members would like to attend?
The event (which will take place at the Miners Welfare Association/One-Stop-Shop in the village of Coalburn, South Lanarkshire) will consist of a 24 hour cycling/energy generation Guinness World Record attempt (the aim of which is to beat the record for the amount of electricity produced 2 years ago in Austria), and a sustainability-themed Family Fun Day.
The record attempt will begin at 5pm on Fri 27th Aug, and individuals/groups are invited to take part by committing to cycle of a period of 5 minutes or more (bikes will be provided). The Family Fun Day will take place the following day (while the record attempt is still ongoing) and will consist of a variety of sustainability/healthy-living-themed games and activities for both kids and adults.
I attach a poster and our press-release; and further details of the event/the sign-up page can be found on our website: http://www.poweringtothefuture.org.uk/. We also have a Facebook event page for those who use the site: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100001250199483#!/event.php?eid=128379293860483&ref=mf.
The event is already being attended by a wide range of people (including Green MSP Partick Harvie), but we would like to encourage as many people as possible to come along and help us break the record!
If you have any questions, or would like further info. please do let me know....
Thanks and best wishes,
