Eight hardy souls at the clubhouse today; Jim S,Colin M,Iain M, Steven S, Lee,young Greg,Jim L and Martin (apologies if I've got your name wrong and apologies if we left you behind but I wasn't sure where you had gone) .
The consensus was that Glentaggart was not a good option on a day like today (Colin M was the sole dissenting voice but lucky for
him he was outvoted) so we decided we would head for Douglas but just continue round the Muirkirk loop.
Then it all went wrong.
The first mechanical happened after a few hundred yards when we stopped in an unsuccessful attempt to free a duck that had got
trapped in Steven's mudguard (not really a duck just sounded like one).
The next mechanical was on the old A74 when a bolt broke on my mudguard jamming it against the tyre but luckily Jim S came well prepared with tie wraps and with the mechanical expertise of Jocky (who had appeared from nowhere) and Lee it was fixed better than new (Jim S even silenced Steven's squeak while he was waiting).
All was well till just after Douglas when Steven punctured and since Jocky was the only one with those silly little gloves we let him fix it. Just as we were about to leave Lee noticed he had a puncture so we set Jocky to work again.
By this time we were all cold and damp so the decision was to about turn and head for the cafe via Coalburn but just after Lesmahagow Lee got another puncture, duly fixed by Jocky (it would be great if Jocky was out every week). Eventually got to the cafe and home without further incident.
Fifty three wet, windy, cold, miserable miles for me.,but it's good to get out |

Great to see a good group of hardy guys out this morning. Shame about the rain, cross wind, punctures, mechanical faults and idiots in cars or it would have been a good training run. But a good group of guys and a tough 48 miles made it well worth it.. Great report Jim..

It seemed as if the changing of the clocks had caused a larger than normal number of the intelllectually challenged to take to the roads.
Hopefully we will be back to the normal number of idiots in future weeks. |
