When youre not going on about turnips Rik , you can come out with some good thoughts and ideas, and wed like to see even more of them!
What you say is spot on, and thanks for offering to do this. I would suggest that members submit their suggested routes to you. You can then decide on which dates the suggested routes be implemented and post them on the forum.
Willie gave me a note of a few other routes as follows, and maybe you could factor them in:
1. Swinhill, Netherburn, Valley, Lanark, Hyndford Bridge, Carstairs Junction, Covington, Thankerton, Cormiston, Bigger. Symington, Wiston, Rigside, A74 and back.
2. Muirkirk circuit clockwise, ending up going back to Larkhall via Glassford
3. Happenden, Hyndford Bridge, Lanark and back either via Kirkfieldbank to Lesmahagow road or up the valley and up to Netherburn.
I wouldnt mind number one for Sunday, but I will leave it entirely up to you. If the tandem is ready after being serviced by Keith, Craig and I intend to go out on it, on the Club run, as part of the first pilot practice session. In case its not generally known, tandems and hills dont like each other, so this run would be fine, apart from the Lanark climb, the Wiston climb and about 100 other rises!
Re the timing of the runs, and the fact that we left shortly before Brian arrived last week, I agree with what you say lets stick to the times 9.55, 10.05 and 10.15am. When it is decided on the day to merge into one group, as we did last week, due to relatively small numbers, we should always wait till 10.15am before leaving.
All of us will have to remember these things, regardless of any pressure to go earlier, including the weather conditions.
Another thought comes to mind, Rik, and John and I were discussing this. Each group in the runs should really have a recognised leader. Someone who will keep the group together, and look after the members of the group by way of pace etc. The concept of a runs leader also fits in well with the Clubs 3rd party liability insurance via BC, which should ensure that the Club and Officials (including Runs Leaders) are covered in the event of a 3rd party claim that may arise from an incident during a Club run.
On the subject of insurance, it is recommended that each member takes out their own 3rd party liability insurance via BC Ride, Silver or Gold membership. Obviously, racing members will already have, or will obtain, Silver or Gold membership in order to race, but other non racing members should take out the Ride membership. Gold also covers Personal Accident insurance. We hope to publish on the website fairly soon information about Insurance and its ramifications.
John has agreed to be the leader for the second group, and Im happy to do it for the slow group. If an even slower group takes off, then we will try to cover that too.
So, would you be happy to act in the capacity of Runs Leader for the fast group, on the basis of the definition shown above? |
