It has been suggested that, from tomorrow, the fast group be split into two groups, thereby creating three Sunday Run groups, as follows:
1. Long distance (60 - 80 miles) at a fast pace, with or without a stop at Pathhead Cafe afterwards. Leaves Clubhut at 10.15am.
2. Mid distance (50 - 70 miles) at a pace slower than group 1, but still faster than the 'slow' group 3. Leaves Clubhut at 10.05am. Pathhead Cafe afterwards.
3. Mid distance (40 - 60 miles) at a pace slower than group 2. Leaves Clubhut at 9.55am. Pathhead Cafe afterwards.
Above groups all use the same route (with deviations). Willie Young is bringing some route sheets tomorrow to cover the next 4 weeks, and pre-planned routes will now be a feature of the Sunday Club runs. From next week, digitised routes should be posted on the website as well as paper copies being on view at the Clubhut.
Aileen McGlynn will be joining us tomorrow in group 3. Willie has kindly offered to collect Aileen and the tandem tomorrow and I will be the pilot on this occasion.
From tomorrow, however, the tandem will be kept locally and we can begin to organise practise sessions when convenient to those who want to be involved.
S'posed to be very little wind, with some rain later on, tomorrow but what's that to us, huh?

Horrible conditions today. Hope the eight hardy souls who ventured out have thawed out. |

Was it that bad?
Glad i couldn't make it now. Went out for a few hours in the afternoon and didn't rain at all!
I'm intrigued, what gloves does The Slab have? |

I was a bit late. Arrived just after 10 past but no-one there. So did 50 miles through Rigside, Pettinain & Yieldshields. Other than the rain making it feel colder than it was I actually found it colder last week. At least I didn't have to worry about ice on the road.. |

Many thanks to Willie for his fantastic help in collecting Aileen and the tandem today.
Aye, it was a very wet and cold today, as JohnC, Ricky, JimL, James, Willie, Aileen and myself, with Cipo in a second week in a row attendance, set off round the Muirkirk circuit.
As there were relatively few riders out today, due to the weather, we formed one group, with Ricky agreeing to be kind to us. The pace, however, was brisk, but acceptable to all. Cipo peeled off beyond Muirkirk.
The wind was just a light movement of air in the face, but the rain never stopped, leaving big puddles and larger areas of water on the road. Once the rain soaked in, the chill factor brought on, in my case, the shivers. So when the tandem's rear tyre became soft out the back of beyond, there was huge relief on my part when Willie plugged in his gas pump!
The state of the roads was bad, with large, deep holes invisible under water, and loud cracking noises were heard several times as rims hit the perpendicular edges. The inevitable followed.
Later, near Douglas Water, Willies front tyre punctured, and up the road near Lesmahagow, the tandem tyre was so soft the Aileen had to cancel my favourite off-the-saddle mode on the hills, as the rim was bumping on the road. We limped into Blackwood and Willie later came to collect Aileen from my house.
Thanks again Ricky, for adapting well to the (slightly) slower pace.
Thanks again Willie, for your kind help, and
Thanks Aileen, for giving me the benefit of your power test PBs!
Like any run in hard conditions, wasn't it great once it was over!
Dennis
PS The tandem is now held locally and will soon be available for pilot practice sessions. |
