Good time by the slab given the conditions on the night it seems, beating Davie Millar must mean you going well anyway!

On a side note, how does this points competition actually work? Never seen/heard any rules on how the final positions are worked out.

Obviously some people will have done more events than others by seasons end due to work/social commitments etc etc.

So is it simply add up all the points from every event no matter what, or is there a dropped-score method in operation. For example, say there are 16 TT's done in total by end of the season, everybodys top 10 results count towards the final result?

Bit of clarification be good for all!

To answer your question, Paul, the way it works is simple:

10 points for the winner, 9 for second, 8 for third and so on.
Each person's points are accumulated.
The winner at the end of the league is the person with the most points.

So you are right, 'we simply add up the points from all the events, no matter what'. Although some people can manage some nights but not others, for whatever reason, it probably balances out in most cases. If only three riders turn up, then that falls in their favour as they will gain more points.

So, although the method doesn't necessarily reward only the fastest riders, it gives all riders a chance to rise in the table, ie it rewards frequent participation (where possible) and encourages club event support. And I think that's a good thing.

If you look at the table on the website, you'll see what I mean.

That's my take on it, but I'm sure that others will give the 'official' version!

Dennis is correct and I see your point Paul. Last year Keith beat me by 2 pts but if I did 1 more event I would have won the league even though I never beat Keith the whole year. I think a better system would be as you said to take your best 8-10 rides or something similiar, altough others may disagree. The current system is to try and encourage everyone to turn up and ride and not pull out due to poor weather, etc. It's something to bring up anyway.

I can see the point in the way the system is now, especially the weather part(although if somebody only ever turned up on days with nice weather they would likely score less points overall, as normally more competition on those days), but i don't imagine people would be less likely to turn up if at was dropped scores instead.

The small difference in points awarded for placings would keep it tight at the top and throughout the bunch as well.

I'm not fussed myself as i'm not going to be in the running for it or anything. I see last year we ran until the last week of August. If we do the same this year, minus the week for the MTT, then thats 16 time trials in total. So 10-12 best scores would be a good system in my opinion, ensures fastest man will win, but still keep it close and interesting to the end!

Just a thought.
