J J Harris passed this result sheet to Jocky at the Vets dinner on Friday:

Jocky Johnstone, fresh from beasting up the Clyde Valley climbs, raids the East Coast and gets 5th place in this 24.5 mile race, narrowly beating his club-mate of a mere 48 years later, Dennis White, by four minutes! Well, I was MUCH younger than Jocky!
Other names on the list that come to mind are, J J Harris, also famous for organising the Trossachs TT for many years, John McMillan, Scottish 100 mile record holder and still races in London today, Tosh McIntosh, a great junior at the time, Jock Ritchie, another well known time trialist of the time, Barry Carnegie, a strong roadman from Dundee, Brian Temple, silver medallist in the 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh, Irvine Morrison, later became Scottish Junior RR Champion, Scottish Championship 50 mile record holder, Roy Francey, a good roadman at the time, Alan Richardson, a good roadman and sprinter (I'm sure Sandy Bain could tell you about scraps with some of these guys).
Class act from oor Jocky!
Two years later, Irvine Morrison and I beat Brian Temple and Roy Francy in a 25 miles 2-up by over a minute. I almost caught John McMillan off a minute in the 1963 Scottish Hillclimb Championship race at Glentarkie in Fife. Later on, John would be dropped on steep hills in club runs in January/February, then come out in June and get Scottish TT records!
Ahh, these were the days!
Jocky, over to you.....
