Anybody go out?

Took a look out the window this morning and the roads were icy and slick, so decided to go back to bed and avoid any potential skittle cycling.

Later on my guilt got the better of me as i hadn't been out since that last club run i was on. So off i went on my lonesome for a couple of hours riding to get the legs ticking over again.

10 miles in and i round a corner. What's this? Up ahead i see some cones on the verge and the road is completely submerged in quite deep water for about 4 or 5 metres. Mindful of hitting any hidden potholes, i gently squeeze the brakes to slow down a bit before i get to the water.

Now, if you picture somebody skydiving, but horizontally. Along tarmac. This is what i proceeded to do after touching the brakes. Turns out the 20 or so metres before the submerged road was all black ice! What fun!!!!!

Then to add insult to injury, as i'm sliding across the tarmac for about 20metres, i plunge head first into the big pool of water. Cracking.

Still managed to complete the fallen cyclists mental checklist:

1) Get up, get up, GET UP!
2) Look around quickly. Nobody saw you, woooo. RESULT!
3) Casually pick up bike and start walking away from the scene of the accident.
4) Quickly check the bike is still in one piece and wheels are turning ok.
5) Remount and pedal home. Drenched(and bruised) to the bone.

Oh the joys of cycling in winter.

Glad you're ok Paul!! Rikeh - words can't express my disappointment at your utter cowardice. I thought you were hardcore!! Shocked

Double figures for the Club Run, which was pretty decent considering the weather. We just went down the 74 to avoid the black ice. Half turned back at Douglas roundabout the other half went down to Abington. Good to see Dennis out on his new winter bike!

Nothing of note really, except spotting Jocky and Sandy at the side of the road. They appreared to be looking for something. Turned out they had just stopped for a p!ss...... presumably the cold weather wasn't helping.

Apologies for skipping the cafe, but the guys who went down to Abington all agreed that if we stopped we wouldn't have started again. Bring on the thaw Smile

Glad you're Ok Paul but on point 2 you've screwed up by broadcasting it to the world. Laughing

After my night out, I was in no state to walk on ice let alone cycle on it. Rolling Eyes
