About 14 riders met at the clubhut and made off in fine weather on the specified routes to Stonehouse, Sandford, Muirkirk (faster group) and Sandilands, Deadwaters, Coalburn, Mill Road, Hawksland (slower group).
This was my first outing on a road bike since March, and it was great to see a good-sized bunch. I found the pace a wee bit fast on the drags to Canderside and and eased up after Stonehouse, along with Andy and Vinny, who was out for an easy day. Andy punctured before Sandford, where Vinny and John G waited. We enjoyed the run over Brackenridge and Vinny turned off at Auchlochan and headed for home.
The run to sandilands and up to Hawksland was also very enjoyable and my legs were beginning to wake up a bit, after the relatively fast (for me) start.
Andy did well, as he isn't used to distance riding, but it was clear that he will be in the fast group before long. He turned off at Lesmahagow and John and I continued to Blackwood Cafe. No sign of the fast group, but that meant more coffee for us!
About 40 miles in unusually fine weather and good company.

Great to have you back Dennis also thanks for saving some of the coffee for me and my brother david who where glad of it, as you will know we did not sleep all night due to being at dads bedside but it is what he would have wanted me and my brother david to do, get out on the bike with close friends meet up at the cafe with other cyclists and enjoy the day which we did. Returning home in lovely sunshine and with a tail wind home now that's what I call cycling ! _________________ It's better to burn out than fade away... |
