Enjoyed a day on the bike at the Ken Laidlaw Sportive

Start/Finish at the rugby club was well organised (and clearly marked for any Albert riders!, see image below). A great turnout of over 500 lined up in glorious sunshine.

The escorted peloton through the town at the start added to atmosphere.

It was a tough 100 mile test with 10 big climbs totalling 2422m

Some familiar roads from the club's Tour O' the Borders trip.

No surprise, the weather played its part starting off in the scorching heat and finishing in torrential rain.

Well organised event with plenty of signage and good feed stations in local halls with lots of support from the villagers who lined the roads.

Well worth the long drive down

Agreed George. This was my 3rd Ken Laidlaw having previously taken part in the 2008 and 2010 events. It really has grown over the last few years into one of best run and supported events in the country. It's great to have proper facilities at the finish. I wish other events could do the same.

The route itself is not super tough but it is still a challenge. The climbs, whilst not particularly steep, do tend to drag on and seven of the climbs top out at well over 1,000 feet. That last climb at Leap Linns was a a real struggle.

I don't intend in taking part in many sportives next year but I probably will come back to this one.

Times are now on the website following this link:-

There is no specification though as to whether a rider was completing the long or the short course.
