Another good turnout today, eighteen or so at the clubhouse , including wee Tommy Murray who I haven't seen out for a while on a Sunday.
Thirteen of us , including Dennis who had decided it was time to step up a gear, set out on the Biggar run and the others settled on a shorter route.
We didn't get far before we were held up by a parade of the Larkhall Purple Heroes marching to the the tune of Abide with Me , much to the confusion of Willie till it was explained that it was remembrance Sunday.
After that a failrly uneventful run down the old A74 was followed by a bit of wind assisted habble on the smooth roads up to Rigside . We regrouped at the bottom of the Wiston climb then up and over to Biggar. The cafe at Biggar was very busy but big Jim soon sorted it out and suddenly there were plenty of seats.
There was almost a consensus that cafe stops in winter are not a good idea and we should just eat on the road, something to think about.
After Biggar we took the back road to Carnwath then the main road to Carluke . Some concern was voiced about the main road to Carluke , safety wise (and I agree) . Maybe it would be better to follow some back roads to Carluke or not go to Carluke, something else to think about.
Anotther good day out in perfect winter weather . Sixty nine miles door to door for me , and my legs felt it.. |

Shame to miss the Wiston climb . It was a perfect day for it.
I have to say Colin, some people ( I won't name names but I'm sure you can guess ) expressed some disbelief at the 'daughter out driving' excuse |

Had to seek out all the dregs at the bottom of the barrel of experience just to hold the bunch for most of the way today. Thanks to the bunch for waiting before and after the Wiston climb. Really enjoyed the ride in the faster bunch again - a sure way to lose the half stone put on during the year.
Many cobwebs were blown away!
I came back from Biggar over the Wiston climb again, through Douglas Water and up the Mill Road then back up the A74. Met Nick in Kirkmuirhill after he crossed over the valley from Braidwood.

Clearly, you guys had better roads in getting to Larkhall this morning. The roads in my estate were a sheet of ice so I went to the gym instead and ventured out on my bike this afternoon. I have to agree that cafe stops in winter are not a good idea and I think its best to keep going rather than have sweaty base layers cooling down and going back out into the cold air and running the risk of bronchitis at the very least. |

Another great days training guys, thoroughly enjoyable.
Must say it was nice to come down the Braidwood rather than go up it for a change, but saying that myself and Nick had a good climb up to Auchinheath and then up to Kirkmuirhill on the road home.
Thanks again guys for a good day. |
