The Club Runs will be held on the Mondays instead of the Sundays this year, ie Monday 27th December and Monday 3rd January.

The Club Photoshoot will take place on Monday 27th December, at 9.45am before the Club Run. Aileen McGlynn will be joining us for this and, hopefully, the Club run.

Big numbers please! Thanks.

Dennis

Since posting the above, Alan has explained that he posted his message before he saw references on other pages of the website as to why the photoshoot in being held on 27th December (weather permitting).

However, in case anyone else may have the same question as Alans, it does no harm to explain the background.

The photoshoot will be held on Monday 27th as it's a great opportunity to include Aileen McGlynn when she will in Glasgow from her training base in Manchester at Christmas.

As you will appreciate, it will allow the Club to gain an even greater degree of valuable publicity, and is also a good way of telling the world that Aileen is now a member of the Royal Albert!

Obviously, it is hoped that this publicity will attract new members, and thats a process we want to maximise, at any time of the year. Laughing

It will also allow Aileen to meet many of the Club members sooner rather than later.

Now 'ere's my side of the story Smile

Called 3 people who I thought would be at the clubroom pawing the ground to get started on the clubrun. Nae answers. Funny, they must have switched their mobys off to avoid disruption of the rythms. So, keen to shake off the cobwebs, I meandered down the road, taking ages to get the feet in the cleats due to snow on the shoes, then reached Auldton, just past Lesmahagow. Snow falling a bit more, signs of it gathering on the road, don't go too far in case you get stuck coming back, so turn NOW.

Turned round into the grain of the snowfall, to see a small band of warriors (Scott, Rik and Paul), white-lined with the falling snow, coming up from Lesmahagow. Couldn't get over the carriageway, so shouted 'Keep going at your own pace and see you at the cafe', or words to that effect.

Proceeded to the turn-off at Lesmahagow for the Coalburn road, decided the snow had receded a bit and to go to Coalburn or as far as it was reasonable to go, for a wee spin. Got to the said Coalburn, top of the hill, snow heavier again and making pretty patterns on the road. Turn NOW, so I did. Got back to the Carlisle road, down the hill, wheeee, and whilst going up the other side towards Tesco on that thin strip of relatively smooth tarmac that every End to End cyclist in the world must know about, I heard noises behind me... I shouted, 'I'm not budging!' and stayed on-track till Scott came along side. Managed to keep it going more or less to the top, round the roundabouts heading for Kirkmuirhill and what does he do? Puts the foot down. And what do I do? Working within a tolerance of about 10 feet, I managed to stay with him to the top of the brae, wait for it, with Rik and Paul behind me, right?

Yes, till Rik came through at the top of the hill and into K'hill. I dropped to the back of the line and held it to that extemely steep hill into Blackwood just past the Strathaven Road ( surely you know it) then the tolerance multiplied by a factor of 20. But they slowed down and I was onto 'em like a flash (in the pan), before they succumbed to the realisation that they just couldn't get the break to work...

As they had had enough, they decided not to go to the cafe, so I birled round the corner. STOP. The road was white and icy. Turned back (checking no one noticed) and went home. Turned on hose to wash bike and water flowed. Turned water off to get bike ready. Mistake. Water froze in pipe. Poured hot water on tap and hosepipe and took it into house to thaw. Thawed. Took it out and turned water on. Don't worry; kept it on.
Washed bike, put it in garage then put hose away and turned water off inside house. No mug me. Came back to dry the bike. Yikes. Frozen beads of water all over it. Took it into house to thaw. Thawed. Back to garage and lovingly dried it, rubbed it, cleaned it, oiled it, patted it, then hung it up. After all, it's a new bike.

So when Rik says, 'Dennis was going strong, he was absolutely right. Cool

Dennis
